Walk 1: Landscape Archaeology of Garrison Creek

Guided by: Jon Harstone
Date: Sunday, May 5th
Start Time: 1:30 PM (Duration 2.5 hours)

This Jane’s Walk will focus on finding clues in the urban fabric (such as changes in finish floor levels,  subsidence, sewer access points etc.) that reveal the original typography – recognizing that much of the recoverable landscape is a human artifact and that the extraction/brick making industry significantly altered the original landscape of Garrison Greek.  The walk applies the techniques used by British landscape archaeologists to an urban environment.

Walk 2: The Walls Are Alive With The Sounds of Mad People

Guided by: The Friendly Spike Theatre Band
Date: Sunday, May 5th
Start Time: 12:00 PM (Duration 1 hour)

A lively theatrical walk around the historic patient-built wall on the grounds of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), led by the Friendly Spike Theatre Band.

These walls are a testiment to people whose unpaid labor was central to the operation of asylums throughout the province of Ontario during the 19th and 20th century. By learning from their individual stories we can ground our own continuing struggle.
