Background: The original redevelopment proposal was rejected by the City (May2012). The developers appealed to the OMB (December 2012), but the appeal was rejected for failing to comply with the Planning Act.
New Application: Recently, the developer (Riotrin) submitted a re-zoning application to council to be heard next Tuesday on May 14. In attempting to rezone the property, the developer may be able loosen current regulations on the site.
The planned development involves demolishing the existing building and constructing a 3-storey retail building approximately 18 metres high (12,000 square metres gross floor area). There is the potential for a single store of up to 8,800 square metres and underground parking for 320 cars. Councillor Mike Layton has expressed that at this stage, the purpose of this motion is to direct planning to schedule a public community consultation for the proposal. No decisions are to be made on the application itself at the on May 14th.
Community Meeting to be announced: the City of Toronto’s planning department is currently in the process of scheduling a public consultation meeting for early June, when the community will be encouraged to attend and to provide feedback on this proposal. More details will be posted once the Date, Time and Location are finalized.
