Community News from Councillor Mike Layton

Councillor Mike Layton’s latest newsletter is now available. Read on for breaking news for the Trinity-Spadina community…

In Ward 19, the Shaw Street contra-flow bike lane has been restored with better road markings and proper signage for cyclists. As well, my Liberty on the GO campaign is gaining momentum! We have launched a survey in order to get more feedback about how we can utilize the existing GO Transit line to help relieve congestion on the King Streetcar and in Liberty Village. Please fill out the survey here. As part of their efforts to repair crumbing infrastructure, the City will be replacing the Gardiner Expressway deck from west of Strachan Avenue to Grand Magazine Street. Below you will find more detailed information about this work.

In an effort to address a growing concern with digital billboards close to people’s homes, I submitted a motion with Councillor Perks to the most recent Planning and Growth Management Committee meeting to begin the process of prohibiting new billboards adjacent the condos in Liberty Village. Further, the City is looking on changing rules to electronic billboards to make them less invasive and distracting. I have always and will continue to oppose electronic billboards due to safety concerns for road users and the negative impacts on the quality of life for adjacent residents.
Mark your calendars for Ward 19’s Community Environment Day which will take place on Thursday, May 22. As well, my annual Bike Month event, Bike with Mike is set to take place on Sunday, May 25. Hope to see you there.

In community,

Mike Layton
