Happy New Year neighbours,
This will no doubt be an exciting year at Toronto City Hall. With a new term of council there is renewed hope for a united City Council that will work hard to make Toronto better for everyone. I look forward to the opportunity to serve our community and fight for better transit, more accessible public services, and a city we can be proud of.
One of the first orders of business at City Hall in 2015 will be the 2015 budget. I’m one of seven councillors appointed to the Budget Committee that will review the budget and make recommendations to City Council. This is an exciting opportunity and I will be looking for ways to protect and improve our public services, expand accessibility of important services such as affordable housing, transit and community recreation programs, as well as make sure our city invests in building a sustainable economy.
As a new member of the Parks and Environment Committee, I will work closely with my colleagues and our community partners to ensure we continue to invest in our parks and make them a welcoming centre for our communities. Working on this committee will also allow me to make sure Toronto is doing its part to fight climate change, improve our air quality, and protect our natural environment.
We all need a roof over our heads and I am looking forward to now serving as a member of the Affordable Housing Committee. I will work to ensure the City is doing all it can to revitalize our existing housing while investing in more affordable housing so that we can address our housing shortfall. The Affordable Housing Committee and the City’s Affordable Housing Office works with other levels of government, as well as the private and nonprofit sector to deliver funds and incentives to create and maintain safe, affordable, rental and ownership housing for low-income residents.
My community office hours are remaining the same. I am available by appointment on Saturdays at the CHIN building on College Street. Please email me to set up a time. If that doesn’t work my office is always happy to help. If you have any questions please reply to this email, send me an email at email@example.com, or call my office at (416) 392-4009.
Below you will find more information about two skating parties I am hosting in the ward. One at Christie Pits on Sunday, January 18 and the other at Trinity Bellwoods on Sunday, January 25.
I hope to see you there!
