Partnerize Acquires Pepperjam, Consolidating Affiliate Marketing
July 29, 2020

Partnerize has acquired Pepperjam to strengthen its hold on the affiliate marketing space as brands look to prove performance for their dollars.

The deal also extends U.K.-based Partnerize’s expansion into North America. In May, the company acquired brand safety and compliance expert BrandVerity, allowing brands to facilitate more effective relationships with consumers.

The U.S. affiliate market is forecast to reach $8.2 billion by 2022, up from $6.8 billion this year, according to Statista. Read more...

 

Pepperjam acquired by Partnerize
July 29, 2020

Pepperjam, a nationally-recognized tech company with roots in Wilkes-Barre, announced on Tuesday that it had been purchased by fellow tech company Partnerize.

“It’s with great excitement, and anticipation for what’s ahead, that we officially announce the acquisition of Pepperjam by Partnerize, a global leader in partnership automation,” reads a statement posted to the Pepperjam website.

The combined business venture will serve more than 1,750 clients worldwide and drive more than $7 billion in transactions, according to the statement. Read more...

 

Publishers prep for back-to-school bump as traditional shopping models and items shift due to uncertain return this fall
July 28, 2020

The continued spread of coronavirus has clouded the outlook for much of the second half of the year. But that uncertainty has been great for publishers’ back to school commerce plans.

Just a few weeks into the unofficial start of this short shopping season, Meredith’s back to school gross sales are up 380% year over year for July, driven by strong sales in categories ranging from sanitary products to e-learning subscriptions, Meredith SVP of consumer revenue Andy Wilson said. Ziff Davis, which owns publications including PC Mag and Mashable, saw the strong performance they’ve seen on products such as laptops continue, even amid an economic crunch, vp of partner development Jessica Spira said. And Popsugar, which has for years been building and augmenting a custom shoppable guide for back to school shopping called Backpacked, said it is outpacing the revenue targets set for its affiliate partners. Partnerize said Tuesday it has purchased the affiliate network Pepperjam for an undisclosed price.

Partnerize’s tech uses automation to help clients optimize their relationships with marketer partners, like affiliates, ecommerce ad deals or influencers. Pepperjam has a traditional affiliate network business where publishers link from their page to a product page, and a network of more than 250,000 influencers.

Partnerize has had a busy year. In January, the company raised $50 million at a $240 million valuation. And three months ago it acquired BrandVerity, a trademark monitoring and compliance tech company. Read more...

Pandemic Putting Mobile Advertising In Spotlight

Consumer buying habits are in flux. Need proof? Just look at the affiliate marketing category. Affiliate network Pepperjam is seeing “a dramatic shift” in how people shop,” said CEO Matt Gilbert.

Between March 11 and March 16, just as the coronavirus crisis was really starting to crack wide open, Pepperjam’s sales volume, measured across about 700 retail and ecommerce brands, dropped by as much as 9% from a year ago, after a period of steady growth of about 15%. Affiliate Advertising, Marketing Rising In Performance

Affiliate gross merchandise sales rose 4% in the first half of March compared with the prior year, despite uncertainty prompted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Most categories have seen an increase, with the exception of the accessories and jewelry and travel sectors.
